Day 46 (Saturday)

w00t today was a good day.

Woke up early and the day was already warm, sat outside and had porridge and coffee ;-)

Wifey 'n' me took Rosie (Dog) for a cycle walkies ;-) did 5 miles at slooooowwwww pace. Got back and went for a walk into Chippenham to buy some brake block's and 2 sets of tyres (Yellow and Red mountain bike)

Had a couple of Ham rolls then set of on a biggy ride at 13:10 ;-) (I had a rough plan of route but I thought I would see where the ride took me)

I set of out of Chippenham toward Bath, took a route through back roads to Corsham (Roads I last cycled down at 17 when I cycled 30 miles a day to college in Chipenham), I then headed back onto the Bath road, cycling at high speed past RAF Rudloe Manor then through Box village past Box Tunnel, turned left at Bath Easton and headed towards Bradford on Avon, then Towards Trowbridge then headed to Westbury then Erlestoke and Devizes then Calne finally heading back into Chippenham a total of 52.75 miles accomplished in 3 hours 39 mins, according to the cycle computer. The gmap of the route is here. unfortunately track me lost the plot!

Part of the ride was very nostalgic, I remember very clearly cycling Corsham, Box, Bath Easton. Trowbridge as a kid.

It was very cool just to head out and not really know where I was heading (unfortunately or perhaps fortunately I have lived in Wiltshire for almost my entire life so actually getting completely lost is unlikely, I generally know where each town is in relation to Chippenham)

Interestingly the things I thought I would have an issue with on the ride didn't cause major problems. I did get numb feet! and ran out of fluid's (Learnt already to always carry change for emergency drink or grub!) so stopped and bough top up drink. I stopped at about 25 miles hopped of the bike and stretched, this worked wonders! the aching muscles stopped and it gave the butt a rest from the saddle.

So today I did a total of 57 miles!......5 slow with wifey and dog and 52 working hard...

I feel good! I have achieved another milestone. And I can still walk talk and function!

I am totally in awe of how far I can travel on a bike under my own steam! and how fast it can be accomplished.

Day 45

Started sneezing on the way home. I feel like i'm starting to come down with a cold ;-(

Instead of going swimming took dog out for a walk. When I got back I hung some wall flower baskets on the garden wall and had late tea.

I am hoping to push the distance a little tomorrow but If the runny nose develops I may rest up for the weekend ;-(

Thursday, May 29, 2008

Day 44

I cycled along the cycleway to Calne in the hope that it would still be muddy ;-)
Unfortunately it had dried out ;-(

However it was still fun!!! I am now certain I will follow Dave's advice I will restrict my mountain bike usage to off-road, I will do my serious mileage on the Dawes.

Today I did 12 miles. 2 Miles over the plan, Interestingly I got home from work in a grump, the cycle ride blew the cobwebs away and I got home from the ride in a good mood.

I actually look forward to getting out on the bike.

Day 43

Dave came over today ;-)

He talked me into taking the shiny new bike out in the rain :-(

We did the Chippenham, Calne, Lyneham, Dauntsey, Chippenham route (Avoiding the incredibly fun Calne cycleway - There was no way I was going to take the new bike down a muddy path)

I started off in front and left him standing!!!! Then I found out his front wheel quick release wasn't fastened correctly so he had stopped :-(

I did very well! Dave powered up the hill's and I plodded up them, but at no point towards Lyneham was I left standing. At Snow Hill (A steep hill going into Goatacre - Just before Lyneham) Dave did leave me for dust- Well soggy rain. He kindly slowed down till I caught up.

He had been following me most of the way, after Goatacre I followed Dave and I realised what all the books mean about slipstreaming - OMG with very little effort you fly along! providing of course you are hugging the back wheel of the guy in front.

From Dauntsey back into Chippenham it was just a pleasant ride. Dave's pace was just a little to quick for me! so I just plodded along.

We did the round trip in 1Hour 20 shaving over 5 minutes of my best time ;-)

It was nice that Dave said we had a good pace and he would not have done that sort of speed if he was by himself ;-) It was equally good that he considers my Lyneham route to be a fair challenge i.e. its not flat!

Dave is a mind of very useful information, and has vast experience of endurance cycling. It was good to go out on a ride with him (It has helped my confidence, not reduced it). He has suggested and I agree with him that we (Nathan, Joy, Marian, Nathan's friend and me) all need to go out on trips together to get used to cycling in a group.

Dave has also suggested that I should use the Dawes for the bulk of my training, use the Mountain Bike for fun, not distance. Again he makes sense! The Mountain Bike has so poor gears and drag that using it is like punishing myself - Its sitting on and the gearing of the Road Bike that I need to get used to!

All in all any concern that I had of going on the road with an experienced cyclist has been completely dissolved, It was a VERY useful experience and one that WILL be repeated.

Thank you Dave ;-)

Day 42

Day Off!!!!!!

Playing computer games ;-)

Day 41 (Bank Holiday Monday)

It was VERY WET and VERY WINDY today, 25 mph NE wind gusting to 34 mph.
Like a fool I decided it would be a good idea to go for a ride ;-)

I enjoyed riding down the Chippenham - Calne track so much yesterday, I started of down there today ;-). I cycled into gusting wind all the way to Lyneham 12.5 miles then went around the Wootten Basset roundabout then returned back down the Calne - Lyneham cycle track.

So today I did 25 miles with half of it into 25-35 mph winds. But still I returned feeling I can do more.

The one sad thing I realised is that the angle of wind that is required to push you along is quite acute, So although I was riding into wind to get to Lyneham it wasn't exactly a tail wind on the return ;-( - We really must not underestimate the affect the wind is going to have on us on the JOGLE, places where my speed is normally up to 17 mph I was struggling to reach 10 mph.

Having been reading some more of the long distance cycle book it has become very clear that the actual cycling is just a part of the problems we are going to face. It also suggests that I should increase the distance I am doing by about 10% per week, mixing easy rides with rest days and a gradual push once a week.

So I intend to do Monday Swim, Tuesday Day off, Wed 20, Thursday 10, Friday Swim, Saturday Push 10%, Sunday as I see fit ;-). The one dead cert is that the 20 -25 is now comfortable.

I would also like to have achieved at least 2 100 mile rides by next May. It sounds bizarre when 40 days ago I thought 10 miles was a long way, but reading this book shows a couple of milestones and the major mental hurdle is 100 miles, It will give me an idea what we are in for! and how best to control de-hydration, and carbohydrate intake. (my god I am starting to sound like a sport billy!)

I am looking forward to going out on a ride with Dave on Wednesday ;-) But also a little daunted, I feel that I am making good progress, but I have never ridden with anybody else, (Even as a kid!) so my self confidence may be completely blown out of the water as I struggle to keep up with a racing whippet! (I must focus on the fact I am after endurance and not speed!) There is no way that after 40 days I will be a match for somebody that has been cycling for 35 years!!!! Besides the forecast for Wednesday is rain so I will be on the mountain bike - No way the new bike is going out in the rain!

Sunday, May 25, 2008

Day 40 (Sunday)

Woke up and got up early.

Had porridge for breky, then set of in the rain!
(Heres a couple of piccies of me setting of!)

I don't like getting rain in my face so the peaked cap under the phsyco helmet helps ;-)

I did the 23 mile Lyneham ride in reverse ;-)

It was great ;-) I felt much stronger, Problem is was this a state of mind, the rest day yesterday? The descent sleep, the poridge for breky or the cooler weather?

I do know that it was FUN ;-) especially the muddy cycle way from Calne back into Chippenham ;-) In fact it was that good I definitely felt I could do the same journey again (No fatigue at all)

(Here's a piccy of the return!)

It was like being a five year old again, the more I splashed myself the bigger was my grin ;-)

I have learnt that it is easier to maintain the bike at the end of the journey instead of the start so here's me oiling the chain after giving the bike a wash down.

My problem now is that the red mountain bike seemed very comfortable and I could have continued! so I am more than a little concerned that the Dawes may need LOTS of tweaking.

Its good that Dave is coming over on Wednesday as he will be able to give some real advice (Instead of me reading it from books and the interweb), I now definitely know that the toe clips are forcing my feet in the wrong position, My feet are comfortable twisted slightly outwards. The toe clips force my feet straight and cause my feet to become numb and my right ankle to ache.

But the Dawes is a better bike and it just needs fitting to me ;-)

I have been reading 'The complete long-Distance Cycling' book and it is actually quite useful! It suggests that constant cadence is the best and it explains about energy usage and effort. But ultimately is states there is no substitute for actually sitting on the bike and doing the miles, But I will have to watch for fatigue and ensure I eat correctly! I think yesterday was entirely fatigue!

Saturday, May 24, 2008

Day 39 (Saturday)

I had really big plans for today. I was going to cycle to Wootten Basset then do a long ride back via Malmesbury.

Problem was I woke up feeling lethargic and my legs were aching. So I opted not to go on a long ride, instead I went for a very short, very slow one!

I took Rosie (dog) out for a 5 mile walkies, me on bike her walking ;-) It was verrrrrrrrrryyyyyy slow.

The phsyco computer says....
5.1 miles
1 hour 6 mins
4.5 mph

But it was closer to 1 hour 30 mins As she found every clump of grass needed investigation!

It was still useful for me as I kept the bike in the lowest gear an tried to keep a constant cadence, although I had to keep an eye out for Rosie and make sure she was happy and well watered.

Friday, May 23, 2008

Day 38

Really struggled to get up for work! (Was it the late night or the 3 pints of cider?)

Got home after 6, got changed then set of on ride at 6:50

I did the 20 mile Lyneham ride, Boy oh boy I struggled! (Think I should have done a shorter ride!)
Light was also fading by the time I got back home.
Still I didn't do to Bad 21 miles in 1hour 29.

All the books I read all suggest that the most important aspect of cycling is the cadence, up to this point I have been just trying to do the distance. Now I am trying to get a constant cadence of 70 rpm, So I have been shifting up and down gears to try and get the constant speed.

Thursday, May 22, 2008

Day 37

Not enough time to go for a ride this evening ;-( home @ 6 going out @ 7 and need time to eat!

Going out to see wifey's concert (Seven deadly sings).

Tomorrows nights swimming is off so will go for a longer cycle ride to make up for it!

Ohhhh My IRON MAIDEN Twickenham "Somewhere Back in Time" World Tour 2008 tickets have arrived today ;-)

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Day 36

I did the 22 miles Chippenham, Calne, Lyneham, Dauntsey, Chippenham ride on the new bike ;-)

OMG it was so much easier! The hand grips are comfortable my hands are NOT numb!

The pedal toe clips may have to go though!

The cycle computer on the bike had a MAX speed on 39 MPH and an Average Speed of 15.3 MPH I did the distance in 1hour 27min.

The gel saddle made a difference as well ;-)

I am no longer worried about my lardy bulk buckling the wheels straight away, They seem good and strong and well up to the job!

Here's some photies of the bike, hand grips and suspension seat post/gel saddle

The books arrived today, I have scanned through them and there's some good info in them about cadence and general bike set-up.

Although I have already learnt my lesson about Seat height and handlebar height!

I have also fitted the LED lights on the mountain bike, They seem to work well but I think I would prefer 'normal' lights on the Dawes, but time will tell!

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Day 35

Well the bike is built and I have taken it for a test ride. (It took a lot longer than I expected! started at 630 finished at 830)

OMG the small hill near the house was nothing! and the funny shaped hand grips are really comfortable. I think I'm gonna like this bike!

The rapid fire gears are sweet.

We did take some picies of the assembly but I wouldn't want to bore you. I will take a picture outside tomorrow before I go on the ride.

All in all I am very happy at the moment with the bike. Lets see how I get on on a real ride tomorrow!

Today is my first day of from doing any cycling or swimming and I think I miss it! ;-( But everything and everyone says the downtime is as important as the uptime!

Monday, May 19, 2008

Day 34

Today was a swimming day, And we actually went swimming!

I managed a fare few lengths of breast stroke. Although my technique is complete pants! and I actually do breast stroke faster without moving my legs at all!

Ohhh the bike turned up today! The tyres are skinny and bald!
Its really....no REALLY light... And even the chain has bling!

Heres some photies ....;-) All photies of my cheesy grin have been removed!

Picture of the BOX (Saddo aren't I?)

The Well packed Bike (Not sure about the Bald Tyres!)

Un-Boxed... ;-)

Plan is to put it together tomorrow evening, So its all been put back in the box ;-( (Wifey does not think me putting bike together at 10pm after cider is a good idea???)

The batteryless LED lights have also arrived today. So will be fitting them to the Mountain Bike tomorrow as well

Darn I am looking forward to Wednesday ride ;-)

Sunday, May 18, 2008

Day 33 (Sunday)

Today was a good day, although I sorta feel guilty as I promised Joy I would take today off.
But wifey had already planned an outing with the kiddies, and I had a nice 2 hour window of opportunity ;-)

I went for the 20 ish mile Chippenham, Calne, Lyneham,Dauntesy, Chippenham ride and did really well (I had a strong head wind until Dauntsey) but still managed to do an average speed of 13mph

I got back home and started servicing the Motorbike. (MOT needed soon ;-()

I am looking forward to new bike, and books........

Ohhhh Just surfing around the net and came across this http://www.doitforcharity.com/cycling-training-guide.aspx
Looks like Joy may be right! I am NOT however going to stop now and start next January! I think If I continue what I have started but include the rest periods I will be much stronger (And lighter)

Saturday, May 17, 2008

Day 32 (Saturday)

I woke up early this morning. So I got up, had brecky and set off at 8:30 ish
I cycled Chippenham, Calne, Avebury, Devizes, Lacock, Chippenham
A round trip of 32 miles.

It started of slow into a head wind, the long drawn out uphill of Cherhill was easier than I expected, I even over took some other cyclists ;-) , as I turned the corner at Avebury the wind was behind me and my speed shot up to 17.5 Mph, which I hoped would drive me all the way home. (I think my average speed was about 15 mph as well!)

Unfortunately after Devizes either I changed direction or the wind did and I was cycling into a head wind again!

I still managed to do the whole trip in 2 hours 38 mins!

When I got home I went for a walk with Rosie after walking her back home I went for a walk and bought some new Trainers (Well actually Boots :-), Then I cut the grass.

I have bought 2 books.
1) The Essential Touring Cyclist
2) The Complete Book of Long Distance Cycling

Joy has been telling me that I should NOT be training so hard, That I need recovery time, should warm up / cool down properly. I am hoping that the books will help me understand how to do things properly!

Ohhhh just got an email to say my NEW shiny bike has been dispatched and will be with me on Monday ;-)

Friday, May 16, 2008

Day 31

Did the same ride as yesterday. Started out well ;-) The ride hight making a huge difference. Then half way round something went wrong, as I started loading up the peddles the rear brake started binding, when I free-wheeled the binding reduced but not completely. Closer investigation showed the rear wheel axle had worked loose again (The wheel was still in tight - But the wheel rocked on the axle)

This meant that the ride home was awkward.

On returning home I removed the rear wheel, Undid the bearing cap, packed it with some LM grease and tightened it all back up again.

Ohhhh the back tyre is now almost bald.

This shows that I will have to do some regular weekly checks on the bike, Brakes, Saddle hight and bearing play for starters.

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Day 30

Got home late ;-(

It was Raining! and light was poor. Still I put the radioactive green top on and went for a Chippenham - Lacock ride (9.3 miles)

I realised why things have seemed tougher of late, The seat post had dropped back into the frame by about 2 inches.

When I got back I raised the seat again, gave the bike a power wash of and oiled the dérailleur's and chain.

I am about to order some batteryless LED lights from www.freelights.co.uk so I dont feel so nervous in poor vis again. (Fitting them to the mountain bike, if I like them I may get a set for the new bike)

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Day 29

Today was a WFH day.

I started work at 7 had my doc's appointment at 8:30 and was back home at 9. I am fit ;-), I worked through till 5.

Today was a first, I did a mid week 20 mile ride (Well actually 23 miles ;-)

It was very tough start as there was a head wind, when I got to Lyneham and the home stretch I had a tail wind ;-). (This John'O to land end may be very tough as I feel we may have a head wind all the way south, unless we are very lucky!)

Having some money left over from stuff, I have had enough to buy the new bike. I have opted for the 2007 Dawes Discovery 601, Being a 2007 model it has a HUGE price reduction ;-)
No disk brakes :-( No Suspension forks :-( But a very good frame and very good gears, with some very good reviews ;-) . The plan is to use the new bike for weekend road distance and the old mountain bike for mid week. (And wet and winter)

Lets hope I have made the right decision!... I was drawn towards disk brakes, and suspension but I think the better frame and gears are the right way to go!...I hope!

Ohhhh added some stats onto top right of site ;-)

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Day 28

Today is games night ;-)

I got home at 6, went for an 11.5 mile ride (54 Mins), It was really tough as there was a head wind on the outbound leg.
Still managed 12mph ;-)

Of to see the doc's tomorrow morning, Wifey is adamant that I should go for a check up......

Monday, May 12, 2008

Day 27

Got home from work looking forward to a swim. Got to Calne and was turned away as the pool was full ;-(

So drove back home and went for a cycle ride ;-) Cycled from Chippenham to Black Dog Halt and back (10 mile round trip)(Gmap here)

Did the 10 miles in 45 minutes with an average speed of 13 mph.

Wifey bought me a cycle helmet today, And here's a shot of me returning from the ride.

I have found the cycle way from Chippenham to Calne interesting enough to do some research on it, I have even bought a book "The Calne Branch" that details the history of the GWR Chippenham - Calne branch line. Not quite a train spotter but.....

Sunday, May 11, 2008

Day 26 (Sunday)

Got up earlyish,

Had a bowl of 'Fruit n Fibre' , then went for doggy walk at WestWood ,took loads more piccies of Blue Bells ;-) (I will upload them to my website here)

After walkie's, I strimmed the patio, the edge of the lawn, cut the grass, then raked it up.
Then I managed to do the Chippenham, Calne, Lyneham, Dauntsey, Chippenham ride. (23 miles - According to Pshyco computer, 22.5 - Trackme - Day26)

I ran out of water at Sutton Benger so called in at a friends house and topped up with nice cold ice cold water, And sank a can of cold ginger beer ;-) Even with the 10 minute stop I still did the 23 miles in 2hrs 9 Min. According to the cycle computer it was 1hr 53 Min ride time.
Avg Speed 12 Mph
Max Speed 31 Mph
and 1555 Kcal (Whatever that means??????)

I think I have finally sorted trackme. I have reset my phone and installed a 3rd party WM6.1 rom.

Had a fab BBQ with my home-made Burgers and some newly invented by me home made Kebabs.

Diced some pork and soaked it in cider for 3-4 hours,
Skewered it and separated with sliced onion and cored sliced apple.
Drizzled with runny honey
seasoned with salt n pepper.

Saturday, May 10, 2008

Day 25 (Saturday)

Got up 7 ish Had some toast.
Got bike out of shed checked it over, The rear tyre is starting to wear, and the axle was a little loose, so tightened it up a little so there was no 'rock'.

Fitted Pshyco computer and Bike Cam.
Set of for the Barge at Honeystreet (17 miles) at 10:10 and arrived there at 11:30 (1 hour 20)
Had a nice pint of Green Goblin (Cider) and a ham ploughman's, followed by Half pint of coke.

Then cycled the long way home (20 Miles) The last 7 miles was tough!

But today I did 37 Miles.

The computer showed an Average speed of 12 mph and a top speed of 36mph ;-)

Here's a few piccies from bike cam

There was a bad thunderstorm last night and one of the trees on the cycle way I use was struck and it had burnt out in the centre. The branches fell and blocked the path, so I had to lift the bike and climb over them......

Friday, May 9, 2008

Day 24

Drove to work today, I was tired and the ground was wet when I got up. (Any excuse!)

Swimming was abandoned today as wifey had headache, and was tired.

I took the opportunity to go for a bike ride ;-)
Did ...11.63 miles (According to Trackme), 13 miles (According to gmap) and 13.4 miles according to Phsyco Computer. So we must assume I did 13 miles. In fairness to Trackme the GPS does not always upload plots and the distance is straight lined between plots.

Some more interesting Cycle computer stats for today's ride.
Maximum speed 30.5 Mph.
Average Speed 11.5 Mph
Ride Time 1:09:34

So all in all a successful result for the Phsyco computer ;-)

I can now do the complete round trip without stopping ;-) The hills are no longer impassable and I find other people cycling to slow ;-)

My knees no longer ache and I don't think I am putting so much weight on my hands and wrists.

Thursday, May 8, 2008

Day 23

Motorbike to work today ;-)

Did normal walk at work.

Got home had salad in garden for tea...The did 'normal' Lacock round trip. The saddle is now at the right hight for me. (I had my first 'Couldn't keep up with you!' from somebody else out cycling) (gmap of route here...and trackme here)

However I did do the 9 miles in a little over 45 minutes ;-)

When I got back I fitted the cycle computer wifey bought for me from Aldi.

I had real problems getting the wheel size into the bloomin thing.

And just so you can see how high the seat post is now here's a photy of the bike.

Wednesday, May 7, 2008

Day 22

Today was a WFH day (Work From Home)
Up at 7 and worked right through till 5.... Then went for a lovely ride Chippenham, DerryHill, Sandy Lane, Naish Hill, Lacock, Then round Lacock and back half way up Bowden Hill then returned home down the cycle way. gmap has it at 13 miles...It was really nice in the sun :-)

Got back..made some burgers. lit BBQ and had a really nice evening , had a couple of ciders, couple of BBQ Cumberland sausages and a couple of home made BBQ burgers ;-)

I have raised the saddle up another inch - I think my legs were still a little to bent and my left knee ached a little. See how it goes tomorrow ;-)

Ohhh just worked out I have cycled about 222 miles in 22 days (incl swimming days excl swimming distance)

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Day 21

Wow what a difference 2 inches makes ;-)

I raised the saddle by 2 inches and the handlebars by about 1.5 and the short ride to Lacock and back was soooooo easy ;-)

Having read a bit now about bike fit I realised that I still didnt have the saddle quite high enough so I have raised it about another inch.

I didn't spend quite so much time leaning on my hands and they didn't tingle at all ;-)

So I am now looking forward to the Saturday/Sunday trip out to see what difference the adjustments have made to a longer ride.

Monday, May 5, 2008

Day 20 (Bank Holiday Monday)

Got up at 630.
Had some Fruit N Fibre ;-)

Diced some beef and marinade in red wine for tonight's pies ;-)

Decided that Saturday and Sunday 20 mile rides were good but I thought I could do more.
So I set of on a 30 mile ride at 7:24, I cycled Chippenham, Devizes, Avebury, Calne Chippenham
I arrived back home at 10:15 ;-)

Trackme and GpsGate threw a wobbly at about 10 miles in. So the gmap route is here.

I have now moved Trackme onto my domain so will in future be available here, I have migrated all the existing tracks into it.

Went for a VERY scary drive to Westbury (Tristan was driving) and Trackme performed properly. (Had a picnic on Westbury white horse, I had two Ham rolls made from last nights left over Cider honey roast ham)

After the 30 mile ride my right hand has become very weak. I have looked into the bicycle adjustments and have realised that the handlebars have been to low. I have now adjusted them up (They are at there maximum height), The seat had also dropped, I have now raised this up as well. (Hopefully that explains the left knee ache and the right hand ache)

The 30 miles was about as far as I could go in one hit at the moment. (partly I guess due to the very muddy cycleway from Calne back into Chippenham) I will stick to the 20 miles for a few more weeks before trying the 30 again.

Swimming has been abandoned tonight as I am cooking.....Ohh I already said Beef in Red wine pies with potato mash pastry ;-)

Sunday, May 4, 2008

Day 19 (Sunday)

Went for a long walk on the cycleway between Chippenham and Calne

My right hand had gone numb again from yesterdays cycle so went to Halfords and bought some gloves and a dayglow top ;-)

Tried out GpsGate on the walk and it didn't work ;-( (I had been creating and deleting users and I had the phone set up with a non existent user ;-(

Corrected the user and set it of when I went for cycle ride. and it stopped plotting about half a mile from home ;-(

I did well today I rode an extended Chippenham, Calne, Lyneham, Dauntsey , Chippenham route (22 Miles) as can be seen here

It actually helped that it was chucking down with rain on the whole journey.

Now I am cooking some cider boiled honey roast ham ;-) (I am in charge of cooking tonight)

Ohhh I have decided to continue using TrackMe but I will use GpsGate as the GPS source and get the TrackMe client to use the Virtual Comm port created by GpsGate. Ultimately I like the GpsGate GPS tools but I prefer the TrackMe Client and Server.

Saturday, May 3, 2008

Day 18 (Saturday)

Got up 7:30 ish and had raisin bread toast

Went for a lovely walk at WestWood and took loads of picies of Blue Bells ;-) before most people even realise its daytime...

Got back home at 11:30 and hat 2 ham salad rolls.

Set of at 12:30 on the Chippenham - Calne - Lyneham - Dauntsey - Chippenham route
20 Miles...My left knee started hurting about half way ;-(

Trackme threw a hissy fit and had me cycling in Spain at about 361mph...
Where in fact I did 10 mph and arrived back home at 14:30, It was a lot more tiring than last week but, there was a noticeable wind this week. On a plus I did not feel the need to stop for hills ;-)

The current plan is for me to cycle to WestBay in July meet wifey camp overnight go fishing on Sunday, Load tent and bike on car and drive back home on the Sunday. The planed route is here

So this is now my current objective...

On the real time GPS tracking front I have started looking at GPSGate I have already bought a license and am in the process of installing a GPSGate Server. So trackme may be abandoned in favour of it ;-)

Friday, May 2, 2008

Day 17

Swimming today ;-)

Followed by dinner out with just wifey n me (no kiddies or dog) And 2 pints of cider ;-)

So this is all I can type..........

Thursday, May 1, 2008

Day 16

Thursday is wifeys night out. So ate dinner before going out.

I was starting to find Lacock a little to 'normal' so I changed route to Calne and back.
I cycled there on road and back on cycle way.....I was really pleased with how it went. The hills were there and hard work but I did not have to stop on them at all....I am actually a lot stronger and fitter I feel it already.

The journey back from Calne was FUN....The track was muddy and full of puddles. I got absolutely filthy.

Trackme lost quite a few plots and had the journey at 10.4 miles, I did an accurate plot on gmaps and it came out at 11.4 miles (I can quibble over a mile at the moment because every one counts!)

I think this may be my new trek... It has a lot more hills and is a little bit further.

Well Today was a good day ;-)
